Environmental Director Receives Statewide Honor

Jul 2nd, 2010

MARK KITCHEN SELECTED KENTUCKY ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES OF THE YEAR

Mark Kitchen, Environmental Director here at The Altenheim has been chosen to receive the Environmental Services of the year award presented by the Kentucky Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

Mark started his career at The Altenheim in 1985.  In the beginning Mark was working at The Altenheim on a temporary basis to assist his father-in-law who was Director of Environmental Services.  Mark’s father-in-law became sick and had to retire from his service at The Altenheim.  Mark was offered the position to replace his father-in-law and has been with our facility for twenty-five years.

Mark possesses many talents other than general maintenance.  He is skilled in electrical, hvac and remodeling construction.  Over the years, Mark has remodeled and reconstructed offices and resident’s rooms.  Thus, this facility has not had to utilize sub contractors to perform the majority of work.

Mark has designed and maintained landscaping for our four acres of land, maintaining our traditional park like setting.  Mark’s focus is to preserve a bright modern updated facility, equipped to perform services to our highest standards.  He has achieved this through his expertise of construction and his desire of perfection.

Mark also has devotion for working around our senior population.   He once told me that he was hesitant about accepting the job at The Altenheim.  However, he stated that he soon discovered that he was learning so much by talking to the resident’s about their life experiences that he developed great admiration for our resident’s.  For this reason, he has remained with The Altenheim for twenty-five years.

It is obvious through Mark’s utmost quality of work, devotion for our resident’s and assisting our staff, that he genuinely loves his job.  We are very lucky to have a person with many talents who can work with people of all walks of life.  Congratulations Mark on this prestigious award!
